Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Orange Abacus (“Orange Abacus,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a free educational calculator service operated by OpenPath Media LLC, a limited liability company organized under the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit https://www.orangeabacus.com (the “Service”), how that information is used, and the choices and rights you have. It is written to be read in full, and we have done our best to keep it short and plain-spoken.
At a glance
- No accounts, sign-ups, or logins are required to use any calculator.
- All calculations execute locally in your browser. The numbers you enter never leave your device.
- We do not use Google Analytics, advertising trackers, or behavioral profiling cookies.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to anyone, ever.
- The only Google service connected to the Service is Google Search Console, which helps us understand how the site appears in search results. It does not set cookies on your browser or collect data about individual visitors.
- You can reach us about any privacy question at privacy@orangeabacus.com.
This summary is provided for convenience. The full terms below are what govern.
Who we are
The Service is owned and operated by OpenPath Media LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company (the “Company”). For all purposes of this Privacy Policy, the Company is the entity responsible for the personal information described in this document. You can contact us at any time at privacy@orangeabacus.com. We will respond to legitimate inquiries within a reasonable timeframe, and in any case within the periods required by applicable law.
Information we collect
We have intentionally designed Orange Abacus to collect as little information as possible. In practice, the information involved in your visit falls into three narrow categories.
Information you provide to us. None. The Service does not have user accounts, registration forms, newsletter sign-ups, contact forms, comment sections, or any other mechanism through which you would voluntarily submit personal information to us. The only way you can affirmatively send us information is by contacting us yourself via email, in which case the information you choose to share is governed by the section below titled “Communications with us.”
Information collected automatically by our hosting provider. Like virtually every website on the public internet, the Service is delivered through a hosting provider (currently Vercel Inc.) that maintains standard server logs for operational, security, and abuse-prevention purposes. These logs may include your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the type and version of your browser and operating system (the “user agent” string), the referring URL, the resource you requested, the date and time of the request, and the response status returned by the server. We do not download, export, profile, correlate, or otherwise process these logs in any way that would identify you as an individual. They are retained by our hosting provider under their own retention policies and used only when we need to investigate an operational issue, a security event, or possible abuse of the Service.
Information stored in your browser. The calculators on the Service may use your browser’s local storage (localStorage) to cache reference data such as recent Bitcoin price quotes and currency exchange rates. This caching exists solely to make subsequent page loads faster and to allow the calculators to remain usable for short periods even if a price API is temporarily unreachable. The data stored in your browser is technical reference data, not personal information about you. It is not transmitted to us, and you can clear it at any time using your browser’s standard tools (typically “Clear browsing data” or the developer console).
We do not collect, and we have no interest in collecting, financial account information, payment card data, government identifiers, health information, precise geolocation data, biometric identifiers, or any other category of sensitive personal information.
How we use information
We use the limited information described above only for the following purposes:
- To deliver, operate, secure, and maintain the Service.
- To diagnose technical problems and improve site performance and reliability.
- To detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- To comply with applicable laws, regulations, court orders, and lawful requests from public authorities.
- To respond to you if you contact us directly by email.
We do not use the information we have access to in order to build advertising profiles, perform behavioral targeting, train machine learning models, make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, or to send you marketing communications.
Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. We want to be specific about cookies because they are often the source of the most confusion about privacy online.
- Orange Abacus sets no first-party tracking cookies. We do not run Google Analytics. We do not run Vercel Analytics. We do not deploy Microsoft Clarity, Hotjar, Plausible, Fathom, or any other behavioral analytics product. There is no cookie banner because there is no consent decision to ask you to make about non-essential cookies.
- No third-party advertising or marketing cookies are loaded by the Service. We do not participate in any advertising network. We do not embed Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, or any other social or advertising pixel.
- Strictly necessary infrastructure cookies. Our hosting provider may set short-lived cookies for purposes that are strictly necessary to deliver the Service, such as load balancing, security, and bot mitigation. Cookies of this kind are widely recognized as exempt from prior-consent requirements because the site simply cannot operate without them.
- Browser local storage. As noted above, calculators may cache reference data in
localStorage. This is not a cookie and is not transmitted with HTTP requests. It lives only in your browser. - Your controls. You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies, to warn you before accepting them, or to operate in private/incognito mode. Doing so will not break any calculator on Orange Abacus.
If we ever add an analytics tool, an advertising network, or any other cookie-setting service in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and, where required, present an appropriate consent mechanism before any non-essential cookie is set on your device.
Third-party services
A small number of third parties are involved in delivering the Service. We describe each below so you have a complete picture. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties; please review their own policies if you want more detail.
- Vercel Inc. — our hosting and content delivery provider. When you visit the Service, your request is routed through Vercel’s infrastructure, which means Vercel receives the standard request metadata described above. Vercel’s privacy policy is available at https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
- Google Search Console. We use Google Search Console to monitor how the Service appears in Google search results and to receive notifications about indexing issues. Search Console is a server-side tool for site owners. It does not place cookies on visitors’ browsers and does not collect data about you as an individual visitor. Google’s general privacy policy is available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- CoinGecko and Frankfurter — public market-data providers that supply Bitcoin price quotes and currency exchange rates. The Service queries these APIs from our own server during page generation or via short-lived caching, which means CoinGecko and Frankfurter see requests originating from our infrastructure, not from your browser. They do not receive your IP address, user agent, or any other identifier tied to your visit.
We do not engage data brokers, advertising networks, marketing platforms, customer relationship management systems, or any other third party that would receive your personal information through your use of the Service.
How we share information
We do not sell personal information, we never have, and we have no intention of doing so. Specifically:
- We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, together “CCPA/CPRA”).
- We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as that term is defined under CCPA/CPRA. We have no advertising business.
- We disclose information only in the limited circumstances described below:
- Service providers. We share information with the infrastructure providers identified above (Vercel and, to the extent of server-side API queries only, CoinGecko and Frankfurter) strictly to operate the Service. These providers are contractually or operationally bound to handle such information consistent with the purposes for which they receive it.
- Legal compliance. We may disclose information if we are required to do so by law, by valid legal process (such as a subpoena or court order), or by a lawful request from a public authority.
- Protection of rights and safety. We may disclose information if we have a good-faith belief it is necessary to enforce our Terms of Service, to investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of OpenPath Media LLC, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. If OpenPath Media LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or a portion of its assets, information related to the Service may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the acquiring or successor entity to honor the commitments made in this Privacy Policy with respect to information collected before the transfer.
Data retention
We retain information only for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, or for as long as required by applicable law.
- Server logs. Retained by our hosting provider under its own default retention schedule. We do not export, copy, or archive these logs.
- Browser local storage. Persists on your device until you clear it, until your browser expires it, or until the cached data is overwritten by newer reference data. It is never on our servers.
- Email correspondence. If you email us at privacy@orangeabacus.com or any other address, we keep your message for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to you and to meet our legal and recordkeeping obligations, after which we will delete or anonymize it.
Your California privacy rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, grants you the following rights with respect to personal information about you that we may have. These rights apply notwithstanding the fact that, as explained above, the information available to us is extremely limited.
- Right to know. You may request that we disclose the categories of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the business or commercial purpose for collecting it, the categories of third parties with which we share it, and the specific pieces of personal information we hold about you.
- Right to delete. You may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions provided by law (for example, where retention is necessary to comply with a legal obligation or to detect security incidents).
- Right to correct. You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing. As stated above, we do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. If our practices ever change, we will provide a clear opt-out mechanism before doing so.
- Right to limit use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect or process sensitive personal information as defined by CCPA/CPRA, so there is nothing to limit. If this ever changes, we will provide the appropriate mechanism.
- Right to non-discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. The Service is free and will remain available to you on the same terms.
How to exercise your California rights. Send an email to privacy@orangeabacus.com with the subject line “California Privacy Request.” Briefly describe the right you wish to exercise and the request you are making. We will respond within forty-five (45) days, or such longer period as permitted by law, after verifying your identity. Identity verification for the Service is ordinarily satisfied by the fact that the request comes from the email address tied to your prior correspondence with us; where we have no prior correspondence with you, we may ask follow-up questions reasonable to confirm that the request is yours. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, in which case we will require documentation of that authority.
International visitors
The Service is operated from the United States and is intended primarily for users in the United States. It is not directed at, marketed to, or designed to comply with the specific consumer-protection or data-protection laws of any other country or region.
If you choose to access the Service from outside the United States — including from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, or any other jurisdiction whose laws may differ from those of the United States — you do so on your own initiative and you understand and agree that any information described in this Privacy Policy will be processed in the United States by us and by our service providers. By using the Service from outside the United States, you consent to that transfer and processing. We do not knowingly target users in jurisdictions whose laws would impose obligations beyond those described in this Privacy Policy, and we limit, to the extent reasonably practicable, the information processed about any visitor regardless of location.
Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of eighteen (18), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under eighteen. If you are under eighteen, please do not use the Service. If you are a parent or legal guardian and you believe that a child under your care has provided personal information to us through the Service, please contact us at privacy@orangeabacus.com and we will take reasonable steps to delete such information.
Communications with us
If you choose to email us, the contents of your message — including your email address, any other information you include, and any attachments — will be received and stored by us as described in the “Data retention” section above. Please do not send us sensitive personal information by email. If you need to discuss something sensitive, contact us first at privacy@orangeabacus.com so we can agree on an appropriate channel.
Security
We take commercially reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect the limited information described in this Privacy Policy against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include relying on reputable infrastructure providers, using encrypted transport (HTTPS) for all communications between your browser and the Service, and limiting access to any internal records to those who reasonably need it. That said, no method of transmission over the internet and no method of electronic storage is one hundred percent secure, and we cannot and do not guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk to the extent permitted by applicable law.
Links to other sites
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, including data providers, educational resources, sponsors (if and when introduced), or sites referenced in our calculators and articles. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or security of any third-party site. The inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement. You should review the privacy policy of any third-party site before providing it with any information.
Do Not Track signals
Some browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no industry or legal consensus on how operators must respond to such signals. Because we do not engage in cross-site tracking in the first place, our practices remain the same regardless of whether your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Service, in our practices, or in applicable law. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date displayed at the top of this page. If we make changes that materially affect how we handle your information, we will take reasonable steps to highlight those changes — for example, by posting a notice on the homepage for a reasonable period. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. We encourage you to revisit this page periodically.
